Me ha gustado un montón, aunque había momentos en los que me confundía y no entendía el comportamiento de Poirot. Me quedé bastante loca con la resolución final.

I suppose I can summarise my feelings for all Poirot novels with a gif every time. We were surely fooled.

After starting with some big hits and later books, I decided to go back and have a look at Poirot in chronological order. This is easily the least good one I've read, but it was still surprisingly good considering it was Agatha Christie's first ever novel! I don't care for the WW1 vet as sidekick and narrator (I wonder where she got that one from!) as it puts a bit of distance between the reader and the main man, forces us to read his (incorrect) thoughts and deductions, and leads to a lot of "I will explain the significance of this clue to you later" - an often annoying trope that the later books, set directly in the detectives head, mostly avoid. There were a bit too many last minute clues for my taste but the solution was ultimately quite clever and as usual no thread, however minor, is left loose.
I enjoyed the nice, cosy setting. Sounds like a dream to spend your days as a rich aristocrat, running around for luncheons and taking your tea out on the grass and all that, at least until someone is murdered.

There is a reason Agatha Christie is the Queen of Crime! This is our first introduction to the Belgian detective Poirot and his funny antics. This is my second Agatha Christie book and I plan to read many more. If you like mystery, you should see why she is queen.

3.5 stars rounded to a four. Love Agatha Christie, but this one wasn’t my favorite. Always a great read though!
