The Sun and Her Flowers by Rupi Kaur

Rupi Kaur's poetry collection offers an accessible yet profoundly moving reading experience. Despite my usual preference for Urdu poetry, I was captivated by her modern and relatable style. The poems addressing themes of heartbreak, family dynamics, and migration resonated with me. Overall, it's a good collection, with an aesthetically pleasing edition that complements the emotive content.

It's true that Rupi Kaur has gained some criticism for her perceived simplicity, with some people considering her work cringy or even untalented. However, I believe there's genuine beauty in simplicity, and not all poetry needs to be elaborate or pretentious to make an impact. Kaur's straightforward style allows her messages to resonate with a broader audience.

Whether you're a seasoned poetry enthusiast or someone new to the genre, there's something in this book that will resonate with you.

Consent
Self worth
Identity
Grief
War and immigration
Body
Abortion/ infanticide
History and freedom
Empowerment and love
All of these themes were present in this book. All vital. All emotive. All moving.

Split into chapters aptly named. Wilting. Fallling. Rooting. Rising. And blooming.  Like the life cycle of a flower its pages grow through life’s experiences.

Kaur just has a way with words that stimulate the brain and this was another great collection from her.  Already leaving me yearning for more ready to delve into the third collection named home body.

how had i ever convinced myself that rupi kaur is a bad poet?
this collection is exquisite.
poetry written in freeverse, and with an accessible language isn't below me, it is still above me.

rupi kaur deals with a multitude of topics in here, ranging from love, relationships, family, to her personal experiences with abuse and sa, self-hatred, growing out of the toxicity to love herself, culture, immigration, feminism, and a myriad of other political issues that need to be talked about. i am so glad i read this.

There were some poems that I really enjoyed reading, there is something comforting within the depressing poems.  There were a few that I didn’t care for but the poems seemed blunt and to the point.

An incredibly fast read.

A book of poetry goes through the author's experienced with truma and self hate then recovery and self love.

Some of the poetry us really good. Other parts don't stand out at all. It's a really average book of poems that I wouldn't see myself returning to.
