Reading this book was like watching a match of ping pong. On the left was Rafe and on the right was Regan. And I was the one who was conficted.
The action of the book flew by me. I started this book a few hours ago and it caught me! I mean... I don't even know how I read it so fast. I just wanted to read another page, another chapter, without figuring out that I was approaching the end of the book. It was that good!
I love it when the main characters are in a conflict almost all the time. It makes the story more provocative. And this one, certainty was an alpha male and female kind of situation with strong opinions and reckless actions.

No voy a mentir, no son los mejores libros de Nora Roberts que he leído. Se nota que la autora los escribió hace más de veinte años y que ha mejorado mucho con el tiempo.
Estoy entre el 2.5 y el 3. Yo diría que un 2.75 sería la nota adecuada para esta novela.
Esta serie de libros me recuerda a la saga de Los MacGregor, donde cada libro habla de la vida amorosa de un personaje de una gran familia y todos acaban en boda. Ambas sagas están compuestas por libros cortos de no más de 250 páginas. Se centran en los protagonistas y no hacen demasiado hincapié en los personajes secundarios, puesto que serán los protagonistas en los siguientes libros.
En general, me ha gustado el estilo siempre cuidado y poético de la autora y la personalidad de la protagonista femenina, una mujer fuerte, independiente y con las ideas claras. En el caso de Rafe, el protagonista masculino, no puedo decir que me haya encantado, puesto que no me termina de gustar su personalidad, aunque tampoco me disgusta. Simplemente me parece el típico chico malo que acaba enamorándose y descubriendo que tiene inseguridades a la hora de tener una relación con la mujer que ama. Me hubiera gustado que el libro tuviera al menos 100 páginas más y que la autora nos hablara más a fondo de los personajes, nos presentara algo mejor a los secundarios que no serán protagonistas de otros libros, como por ejemplo los vecinos, y que hiciera más hincapié en el pasado de ambos protagonistas de los que no conocemos prácticamente nada y que me parecen muy interesantes por los pocos detalles que proporciona la autora.
En resumen, el libro ha sido entretenido, no es el mejor de Nora Roberts pero conserva su estilo y su narrativa. Seguiré leyendo la saga a ver si al terminarla mi opinión cambia y mi percepción global de los cuatro libros mejora.

2021 reread: sometimes you just need to reread some romance.
This is a re-read of one of my favorite Nora Roberts series, though it's probably been a decade since I've read any of these books. The Return of Rafe MacKade is the first book in The MacKade Brothers series, and as such it spends more of its time introducing the all of the characters and less time on the romance between Rafe and Regan. There's plenty of suspense and a great love story, making this one of the best of Nora Roberts's series romance work.
Hot! Hot! Hot! The closest you can get to an erotica novel without being explicit!

I'm seeing that Robert's has a mold for about 4 leading men and 4 types of women. This would be the Anna and Cam type. Not bad. Good for an afternoon of not thinking too hard.

Bad boy Rafe MacKade returns to his hometown after 10 years. He now owns a successful construction and real estate business and he has just purchased the old Barlow place which he wants to restore and turn into an inn. Regan Bishop has owned an antique shop in town for the last three years and when Rafe mentions he is looking to fully furnish the Civil War era home she is itching to get her hands on the job. Rafe is very attracted to Regan but she wants to keep things strictly business. Once things tip over into the physical both think the other is only looking for a casual relationship. Add in some ghostly happenings sprinkled throughout and a domestic violence storyline that expands across the rest of the series making this a romance with substance.
