I did not think I would enjoy a contemporary book like this, but I think the writing style and plot really sold it. The way Ella and Louise were written was reminiscent to my peers growing up, Annette and Alice’s dynamics with Maud were really refreshing and nice to see, and the twist in the middle was well done—it was a relatively quick read that I did not expect to enjoy.

Marriage is tough but it’s even tougher when you have children and want to do what you think is best for them…when it’s not the best for you. I loved Jane’s writing and as someone who lives in the Bay Area, it was a beautiful feeling to know the places she wrote about. I certainly didn’t see the plot twists coming and really enjoyed the element of surprise that came with reading this novel.
