This feels like home. The world building throughout this book is beautiful and it's easy to feel like you're there walking with the group - I wish I was!

The friendship between the fellowship is so heartwarming, especially Sam. Honestly Frodo doesn't deserve Sam as a friend, I'm really not a fan of Frodo as a character. I was waiting the whole first part for the introduction of Strider...was not disappointed. Definitely my favourite character by far - not just because he's fuckable ok, promise. There were so many parts of this book that just made me so happy.

This is a long story and very lengthy book for sure and not sure how I felt about there being no clear ending as the trilogy follows on through each book.

This is a real story. This is what all good stories and books now were shaped by.

If like me you put off reading this for years, do yourself a favour and pick it up. It's just as good as you've heard it is. :)

For months now I’ve been meaning to start reading The Lord of the Rings and recently I found out there’s audiobooks narrated by Andy Serkis and I just knew I had to listen to that version and I’m happy I did!

I watched the movies two years ago and I remember few things so I was comparing it to that at some points, there’s some things here I know didn’t happen in the movie and a couple others that were modified, it was interesting to see that. I was hoping to see more of Arwen but her appearance was so brief here.

I love to see that Sam's loyalty and devotion towards Frodo is the same in the book. While having Pippin and Merry in the adventure is like having two little kids in the company lol

I didn’t know Frodo leaves Hobbiton when he’s 50 years old, just like Bilbo did when he went on the journey with the dwarves 🥺

My rating is 3.5 ⭐, it was entertaining and I love the audiobook, but I have to admit at some points I had no idea what was going on, and that’s because this is slow and (i’m sorry!) a bit boring sometimes lol so I lost my focus.

Enjoyed part 1 of this adventure
Appreciated how some characters like Gimli got more development, vs just being a comedic relief character
I will never get over Tolkien’s location descriptions, I wanna emulate them in my own writing
‘The Withywindle valley is said to be the queerest part of the whole world-the center from which all the queerness comes, as it were.’

It's hard to review Lord of the Rings, its impact on fantasy makes it more of a biblical text than a fantasy novel. We owe almost everything we have in contemporary fantasy to the Lord of the Rings. Aside from that, its still a beautiful read, and a joy. Every member of the fellowship has their own individual character traits/flaws/personalities/longings and it's a real pleasure to follow them. (Also as someone from the south of England its really special to see a lot of my surroundings and culture highlighted in The Shire. There's nothing to me quite like the British countryside, and I'd also journey to Mordor to protect it)
