One of the most influential and mind-opening books I have ever read, couldn’t come close to giving it a good overview as so much is covered but I’ll try! 500 page book could have easily been 1000, has really changed my perspective on the whole world.
Savory explains the principles behind his management framework and then walks us through Each individual step. Through this his main focus is absolutely on agriculture and primary production but he often indicates that the framework is for managing any “whole”.
The book has a bit of a reputation for being quite long, dense, and a difficult read that if you’re keen you can slowly keep plugging through, so going in I was a bit wary. What a load of crap! I agree it is very dense, chokkablok full of information, but that is an absolute positive. There wasn’t one section in the book where I thought I was wasting my time a little bit, every chapter is something new to mull over, think about and then apply in my life.
If you are in the agriculture industry, this book is a must-read, it is still an incredibly important read for those outside the industry and interested in the sustainability of the planet, the tools learnt in the book can be used to manage your own life or your business.
