Merritt Fernsby had been estranged from his family since he was eighteen. Now in his 30's, he was notified that his maternal grandmother had left him a small island in the Narragansett Bay. The island had a house that had not been occupied for more than a century. Merritt was tired of renting and felt this might offer him the opportunity to own property and provide a place where he could write his novels in peace. Once arriving at Whimbrel House, he was surprised at how well the house had weathered the years. He had expected a far worse appearance given that it was long unoccupied. After looking around inside a bit, he started to feel uneasy and decided to leave. The house would not let him go. He was locked in. Hulda Larkin worked for BIKER, the Boston Institute for the Keeping of Enchanted Rooms. BIKER had been notified that an enchanted property had been inherited and she would be needed to learn more about that enchantments of the property as well as teach the new owner how to live in an enchanted house.
This was so fun to read. Merritt and Hulda were excellent MCs. Merritt longed for his lost family and was in need of more special people in his life. Hulda learned to keep up business only persona when working with others. In the past, she had developed feelings for the men she had worked with and those feelings were never returned. She had resigned herself that she would not marry and made her work with BIKER her life. I especially enjoyed reading how Hulda went about learning about the house and the spirit that inhabited it. Overall, I loved this book.
