An enjoyable, lighthearted cozy fantasy mystery. For the most part, the anachronisms actually added to the charm, but the complete lack of acknowledgement that slavery was still happening during the book's time periods and in its general area sat poorly with me.

“Beauty is just like a book. Some will not bother to look beyond the cover; others will find the entire tome utterly captivating.”

The perfect combination of historical fiction, fantasy and a touch of both mystery and romance!

I love how the author makes these enchanted house that should feel creepy and scare people like a haunted house should be feels magical and playful instead, because of the magic that plays a huge part in the story.

Great writing style which describe the world building and parts of the house vividly, makes it easier to envision these places.
The magic system is also fascinating, there’s so many different type of powers. While it might feel a bit overwhelming at first, but you’ll remember it easily as the story goes.

Both main andside characters are well developed and easy to connect with.
I love the banter between the main characters (Merritt and Hulda) – how different they are but ended up getting along together.

My favorite part of the story would be the found family aspect and the enchanted Whimbrel House which just liven up the story with its pranks set for the characters that live in there.

The twist near the ending is very unexpected because I guess the wrong villain, I thought that one person was the villain in disguise when in fact it’s the other one!

Overall, this is a great and enjoyable read!
I would read the second book immediately to continue the story and find out more about Merritt’s power and family. I wish there would be more romantic interaction between Merritt and Hulda cause I love seeing both of them!

I received an advanced review copy for free through Netgalley, and I am leaving this review voluntarily. Huge thank you to the publisher and the author!

A solid little adventure story, The Keeper of Enchanted Rooms follows three main characters, an author, the enchanted house he's inherited, and the magical housekeeper sent to tame the house. There is a side plot featuring a magician stealing magic with a good dose of body horror thrown in, but mainly this is a little love story about found family. The steampunk esque Victorian setting is filled with tropes and is very comforting. The environment of the house is it's own character, and very vividly drawn. Much like the last Holmberg book I read there's a little something off at times, which is hard to put my finger on, an unexamined reflection of the nastiness of her villains perhaps, but this was a really enjoyable and trashy read

This book had me screaming all throughout the last 30% of the story. The tension build-up and release was PHENOMENALLY paced on all counts. The plots and subplots were all woven so well that I did not ever feel burdened with absorbing too much information at once, yet the world felt intricately detailed and fleshed out. I fell in love with each and every character, and even experienced sympathy for the antagonist. The author is a wordsmith. There is nothing I did not like about this book. I have already pre-ordered the sequel!
