Magic, danger and romance all woven together into such a captivating and intriguing story set in the 1800s. It took a couple chapters for me to get into the characters but by the end I adored everyone in Whimbrel House.

A half-baked story with unconvincing, often cheesy (not in a good way) romance. The magical concept was okay enough but it feels like the author kept the whole thing way too shallow and focused on the wrong things. Picked this one up for the Goodreads challenge so I didn’t DNF it for the same reason. Barely 2 stars.

I liked the premise of the book. A man, estranged from his family, inherits a house on an island from his maternal grandmother. The house is enchanted. When a woman from the Keepers of Enchanted Rooms shows up to help him with the house, she brings danger with her.

The story was fine. I recognized the injections the author planted, and I’m just not a fan of that. The magic and setting were good. And, the characters were enjoyable. Just okay for me.
