dnf @ page 70. agonizingly slow. writing not for me.

Brilliant

This story is a delight.
The pacing of the action feels a bit off here or there, but I feel that way with most of Holmberg’s books (and yet I keep reading them because they are almost all joyous romps even so). The plot here is tightly woven and the villain has a convincing motivation for his villainy which is not always the case in magic based books or with the sort of baddie this one is. The main characters and supporting players are so much fun to spend time with as they get to know each other and build relationships. The house especially is a gem. And there are some scenes in this book that are so well done the delight in reading them just steal the whole thing - they are literal scene stealers - I’d recommend this book for those alone even if the rest were terrible, but the rest is excellent, so if the summary seems like your thing I’d jump in. And if you, like me, get impatient with the pacing, this is one that is really worth sticking it out for!

This was a very interesting read. I don't read a lot of historical books but this is more AU historical like what if we had magic over 200 years ago.. it definitely heightens those intense moments when people need to talk with one another but oh no there's no phones or planes! I could definitely tell this author was Mormon but it wasn't like overly distracting or anything. I will most likely read the rest of this series at some point.

I could not get into this book! It felt slow and I was not connecting to any of the characters.
