This book is really good. I love the royal family element and all the formality. The characters are great, especially Aurelia who is strong, even when she’s not so sure of herself. Ryot is a hot, possessive protector who will do anything for the princess. Add in Aurelia’s girl squad and Ryot’s band of brothers, and the book has an amazing array of people! The world building is perfect, and the plot is well thought out. I look forward to reading more books in this series.

𝐓𝐡𝐞 𝐑𝐞𝐥𝐮𝐜𝐭𝐚𝐧𝐭 𝐖𝐢𝐟𝐞 is the 4th book in The Davenports series by L. Steele, featuring a grumpy bodyguard, fake marriage romance for Ryot and Princess Aurelia. Lord save us from stubborn Davenport men who can’t recognize or admit obvious love! Ryot follows a familiar pattern of fiery lust and love that he denies under the guise of a fake marriage or agreement. I did enjoy the suspense plot, the action, the danger, the added layer of Aurelia’s royalty, the found family vibe, and the obvious chemistry and over-the-top spice. There were definitely some surprises in store for this couple that left me shocked, yet impressed. While Ryot was the possessive, protective, alpha hero that seems to follow the trend of this series, I was fascinated by Aurelia’s strength, especially in her world. As compelling as their bond was, the entire cast of characters came together in this one to add to the story. I am really looking forward to the next one!!

I adore Ryot and Aura! The sizzle between right from their very first meeting is hot and intense. She is a princess who would rather be just a normal woman, out of the spotlight, able to do and go where she wants and choose her own groom. He is former military and holding on to guilt over the death of his wife. Ryot is stunned by the sparks and awareness he feels when a stunning young woman claims her as her husband at a bar. So stunned that he follows her out of the bar, exchanges a steamy kiss and watches her dart away with regret.
Finding her again has never been more complicated. She is Princess Aurelia and Ryot is her new bodyguard. She is set on seducing him, he is set on resisting her and prioritizing her safety. She is wilful, a bit spoiled, and irresistible, but she is also a dutiful royal daughter who will marry the man her father has chosen for her in order to save her family and country from financial ruin. The attraction and awareness she feels for Ryot is new to Aura, as she likes to be called, and very real. She doesn’t feel either for her fiancé and hopes Ryot will show her what passion can be like between two people who do feel sparks when they are near each other. She soon learns a great deal about passion, regret and yearning. Maybe she should have been more careful about she wished for, or maybe not.
Will Ryot follow his duty or his heart that has been claimed the stunning and willful Aura? Who is set on eliminating her? Can he protect her from the would be assassin? Will he find a way to claim her for himself? All of these questions are answered as their story continues. There is lots of steam, dirty talk and passion, as well as tumultuous emotions and dangerous situations. There is also a wedding that both aren’t sure how they should feel about, mainly because both don’t know what the other is feeling or thinking. This is a book you can’t put down until you have finished reading the last page.
This mesmerizing and memorable book has my wholehearted recommendation.

I loved this story so much. Probably my favorite of this series (so far). The way Ryot loves Aurelia is the way you hope anyone to be loved. It’s kind of a he falls first trope except that he is hesitant to accept it. He knows in his bones that she’s the one for him after their first meeting but due to his past relationship he’s a bit reluctant to move forward with his life. And what he doesn’t realize at the first meeting is that she’s his new principal he’ll be protecting as her bodyguard. This adds to his reluctance to fall.
Aurelia is a arranged by her father to marry someone else and as a princess she wants to do what her country needs but she also doesn’t want her first time to be with someone she doesn’t like and choose for herself. She is hoping to make some memories that will get her through what she believes will be a loveless marriage. She feels the sparks fly with Ryot at that first meeting as well.
The sparks continue to fly and their budding relationship grows as Ryot continues to protect her against the people trying to hurt her.
Aurelia’s arranged marriage falls apart but this pushes Ryot into acknowledging he doesn’t want to lose her. He continues to struggle with his one internal battle but knows he can’t live without her.
I don’t want to give too many spoilers. This is a beautiful love story with the right amount of suspense with it. Very much enjoyed this book and one of my favs of this year and this series. Looking forward to the next book!

I'm a huge sukker for books with royalties and therefore royal weddings 🩷
These Devonports are so perfect. OK, they still are also very stupid and stubborn, but still they are 🥵🔥
The chemistry between Ryot and Aurelia, just WOW. It's definitely not just insta-lust but also love at first sight, even though Ryot won't see it. Honestly, why do these alpha males never realize that they are already so in love??? 🙈
Ryot isn't just Aurelia's new bodyguard because she is a princess. But because there is again a threat against her. And sure her father, the king, wants her to be safe. And this thread is something that goes through nearly the whole book. It causes a lot of trouble and dangerous situations 😱😭 And because Ryot doesn't trust many people (and because the security company he works for is owned by his uncle Quentin 😉), there are a lot of Davenports in this book. So much testosterone 🥵 and even Tiny gets a short entrance (without champagne this time 🤣).
And even though Arthur (the head of the Davenport family and the grandfather of all the brothers) is a grumpy old man and can be a huge pain in the 🍑 for his grandsons, he will still be with us for a while 🤞 There are a few more of his grandsons that aren't married yet and he won't leave this world before they all aren't married, that's definitely one of his life goals. And he has his girlfriend 😎
And as always I'm already very excited about the next book. The next Davenport brother (yes, there are still a few left 🤣). Tyler is a single dad and needs a nanny. I know a huge cliche, but I love this trope 😎
And I hope there will be a book about Victor, Aurelia's oldest brother, the next king 🤞🤞🤞
