Surprisingly, I enjoyed this more than I though I would!

Reread for library bingo.

Still holds up.

What a GREAT book! I laughed.......I cried........I underlined & highlighted lines........so beautifully written! And funny, too!
This book would pair well with The Hate You Give--- the main character in both books live in 2 separate worlds......similar themes, etc.

This was a very honest story and I appreciate the writing style. Junior was a likable if somewhat crude narrator that gives context to a life lived and died on a reservation. He contrasts the lives of his reservation friends with the lives of his white high school friends in such painful starkness, but with honesty that I appreciated.
I maybe would not have picked out up if I’d known about the authors history, but it’s too late for that.

I am currently reading one book for every state in the United States written by a non white author. This book is written by Native American Sherman Alexie and set in Washington on the Spokane Indian reservation.

I would give it more of a 3.5, not a 4, but it is better than a 3.

Wondering who the target audience is for this book. It's written in the style of books like Diary of a Wimpy Kind and Dork Diaries, which appeal to elementary readers. But the contend is more middle or high school. 😕

It was a good, fast read. Saying I liked it isn't quite what I mean, given the tough content, but I think it was good.
