What a fantastic book!! It was read by the author, and he has a reservation indian accent that is a pleasure to listen to. This story has so much heart and hope - it made me laugh and it made me cry (more laughing than crying, don't worry!) and it brought so many issues that contemporary Native Americans grapple with to light.

Great great story of a young man's decision to change schools and the broadening implications of this into all areas of his life and culture.

I LOVED the descriptions of Grandmother Spirit - her tolerance and acceptance seem almost saintly. "What do I care if a man wants to marry another man? The only thing I want to know is who is going to pick up the dirty socks?" Awesome.

Absolutely, whole-heartedly recommended.

A semi-autobiographical view into a the life of a boy from an American Indian reservation. I cringed, cried & laughed. As one would expect from the most banned book in recent years, Sherman Alexie pulls no punches but tells an inspiring & honest story.
