It was a wholesome read. I adored the narrator of the story, Jack, so much. His mannerisms, habits, and personality really reflected the concept of being childlike as a twelve-year-old yet honest to the core, which made it agreeable as if the reader was the one taking on the journey, listening to Joseph's life story. It's the type of book that's good for kids but shouldn't be taken literally. It needs to be looked at in an in-depth manner of what the message it wishes to convey is a stroke of responsibility and living beyond the norms, as we cannot control changes that may happen at anytime in our lives.

I wasn’t too sure about this in the beginning. The writing style grew on me and I grew to love it by the end of the book. The emotions portrayed left me with a pit in my stomach. It’s a short read but I a very impactful one.

a beautiful, heart-wrenching, and powerful story about family, love, loyalty, camaraderie, and friendship. though set in the heart of winter in maine, this book will warm your heart and rip it to pieces simultaneously. joseph brook and his story will definitely stick with you long after finishing this short, but impactful and beautiful read. would highly recommend!

this book was soo beautiful yet it was heartache & pain !!!
i love Jack & jack’s parents & joseph (you have my heart)😭
~it brought me tears & i loved joseph & jack for what they’re & their bonding & for who they were & i love them cuz they’ve got each other’s back no matter the whole world against them !!!
Joseph was assigned to jack’s parent’s house as a foster kid who barely speaks nothing to jack & his parents ever since he started living with them. joseph’s past is just soo heartbreaking that you can’t help but want to give him a hug !!!
i hated certain characters soo much that i want to punch them on their fucking faces, it made me soo angry that i wanted to scream.
it’s an easy & simple book to read in one sitting & can’t help but feel sad.
it’ll make you believe in how beautiful humans are & also how cruel can humans get !!!
