The book has Christmas in the title...but it really has nothing to do with Christmas as the story takes place over a whole year. I really enjoyed this book, and it's a great book about friendship and helping one another out - however, its not all mushy, there are laughs and girl stuff indeed! Good book. My mom read it too and liked it!

I love Karen Swans winter reads but did take a bit of time to like Cassie - the main character
Set over 3 cities it’s a lovely book about finding yourself and taking the opportunity to experience what they have to offer.
By the mid point of the book I was in love with it - so clever, heart warming and romantic. Some difficult themes in this though so it’s not all cosy and light.
Would recommend if your looking for a feel good read.

This review was originally posted on Star Crossed Reviews I picked this book because of its cover (I know I broke the don’t judge a book by its cover rule). I am a sucker for a pretty cover and this one is great. I LOVE Christmas. It’s my favourite time of year. I also adore the idea of New York at Christmas. I am however still to see this for myself. Maybe one day. However don’t be fooled into thinking this book is all about Christmas. In fact only a small portion of the book is set at Christmas.

This was a fun girly read. It reminds you what best friends are for. I loved seeing Cassie develop from a sheltered Scottish Housewife to a feisty New Yorker, a relaxed Parisian and finally to the at home Londoner. I was so jealous of Cassie getting to visit all these places, I loved ending each section and starting in a new city. Although it’s not mentioned in the synopsis Cassie also has a mini visit to Venice. I’ve been to Venice and I absolutely loved it there. I didn’t want to come home so this was my favourite part of the book. as well as the lovers bridge in Paris.

I guessed the ending of this book quite early on and I thought it was very cute but for a little while I thought I was going to be wrong though. This is a chick-lit must read and one of my favourite books.

I'm really torn with my feelings for this story. Though the thread of female friendship is a major piece of this story, the friendship that Cassie has with 2 out of 3 of her friends seems a bit toxic. She's reeling from finding out her husband of 10 years has been cheating on her and has a child with her best friend and yet Kelly and Anouk act like it's the end of the world to grieve those relationships.

Kelly and Anouk immediately set about changing everything about her. It's like nothing about Cassie is good enough for them. Her hair color needs changing, her clothes, her diet, her self-care regime, basically nothing about "old" Cassie is good. It isn't until she gets to stay with Suzy that she begins to blossom and feel the most comfortable with herself. Personally I think a lot of it has to do with Suzy not trying to change her. She allows Cassie the space and time she needs to be herself and grow. IMO Suzy is the only one of her friends truly giving her a full friendship.

I had other issues with the story, but the way female friendship is portrayed truly bothered me.

Cassie married at an incredibly young age, at only twenty years old, to an older man and her first love. She never got to experience life or travel the world but she was content and satisfied with her life despite all that. After discovering that Gil, her husband of ten years, had betrayed her, Cassie leaves immediately and doesn’t look back. She devotes the next year of her life to doing what she never did before: discovering who she is and what she wants out of this life to make her truly happy.

I could go into some serious detail about this book but it’s all Spoiler-ville and it’s one of those stories that you definitely need to experience firsthand. And what a wonderful experience it was. I’ve been in dire need of satisfying this deep-seated craving for a fluffy read for months now (especially after the 13 horror novels in a row I read for October). Suffice it to say, Christmas at Tiffany’s satisfied my craving completely leaving me with the goofiest grin on my face, all sorts of feels and looking incredibly similar to Sally:

Christmas at Tiffany’s is primarily about Cassie and the dissolution of her marriage, however, even though she’s the main focus there was still the most amazing cast of characters with their own stories as well. Between her trips to New York, Paris and finally London she meets all sorts of new people that color her life and make her realize how much she’s been missing all this time. Cassie was my absolute favorite though and her story was one of heartbreak and I so loved to see her transform and overcome it all.

Don’t let its massive size put you off because this is one story you will not want to have end. Any book that can keep me completely wrapped up and absorbed for 580 pages, STILL leave me wanting more and even make me want to start it all over as soon as I read the final page is certainly impressive. Also, sure, it’s chicklit or contemporary romance or whatever you want to call it, so it was slightly predictable and cliché. (I mean seriously, I wish I had fancy rich friends I was just able to crash with for 4 months at a time in different glamorous cities around the world.) You know pretty much from the get-go who she’s going to end up with but the pages in-between that happening were far from being mere filler. This wasn’t just a story about finding love again, it was about living life and learning from your experiences. It was about finding new passions, about truly opening your eyes to everything and exploring this wonderful world we live in. It was all the things. *sigh* And I’ve just decided this gets the full 5 star rating from me. This was such an incredibly feel-good book that has left such a lasting impression on me I can’t seem to think of anything else. If you’re a fan of the genre, this is an absolute must read. I can’t recommend this one enough.

I received this book free from the Publisher, TLC Book Tours in exchange for an honest review. This does not affect my opinion of the book or the content of my review.
