Pretty much the first self-help book I've read and pretty much what I expected.
Matlz's central arguments are that
1. A lot of what we do is subconscious action and thought, which is guided by our self-image
2. The human brain is crap at distinguishing reality from imagination
From these two premises follows that by systematic use of your imagination (i.e. visualizing yourself acting and feeling a certain way in certain situations) you can manipulate your self image and behavior.
There were other bits of the book which did not appeal to me but which reflect the time of the writing. I found no value in talk about life energy and hints that if you visualize hard enough, who knows, you may unlock psychic powers. This stuff lost the book one star in my rating.
However, at least in my experience the core of the book - the visualization exercise - does seem to work. I've always thought of myself as a night owl but I've now done one 21 cycle of daily exercises and have managed to change my sleeping rhythm. Maybe it's a fluke but I have to say I am motivated to continue experimenting.

One of the rare gems that offers such more to think about in such a unique manner. The description of mental imagery and the impact Psycho-Cybernetics can have on your life was something I had never been exposed to until this book. I now have something at my disposal to enhance my life and those around me.

I really enjoyed reading this book
, as u can see i took my time reading it so I could actually get the information in my head and not rushing them or skimming it, and tbh it did help me view things in a way I never imagined i would.
I felt myself learning abt my obsession with perfectionism and behaviorism, especially mental imagery and self-belief.
Bref, will i re read this book? Myb, will i use wt i learnt from it? Absolutely.

Maybe I've read too many self-help books, but I found the subject matter in Psycho-Cybernetics to be dry and somewhat underwhelming. I initially started the book and quit around page 80 due to lack of engagement. After having finally finished reading the book on the second go-around, I would say that the last 2 chapters were probably the most interesting to me and provided information that I thought was "refreshing".
For someone that hasn't read much in the arena of self-help, I would say this is a decent read. I'm sure this book is the foundation for more recent books in the self-help arena.

This has been so good. Unexpected. On life, success, happiness. And the ‘nostalgia’ for the future, for all that it has in store.
Definitely more re-reads needed.

to remember:
--About your success, “you must not wait to act until you have proof —you must act as if it’s already there and it will come through”
--Do everything you can to prepare, and then relax in the doing of it. The more you can detach yourself (and your self esteem) from the outcome, the better you will perform. Get out of your own way.
--“Live in daytight compartments”. The only time we have any power over is the present moment…don’t waste time worrying about the past or future; do the things you need to do right now to heal the past or prepare for the future.
--Happiness is a choice. Your circumstances may be difficult or discouraging…but your attitude can make those circumstances worse or better. You always have a choice about how you react.
--“be willing to make a few mistakes and suffer a little pain, to get what you want”. Bring courage to your life, do the hard thing, be vulnerable, and take a risk for something you really care about.
