It was a good story spanning 3 generations, and while it was a little draggy at the start, I liked how the author connected all three stories.

My main grapple with it is the incest,
he could've just been a close family friend. not an uncle. it was hard to get through, especially when i saw alba was pregnant. it just felt icky, and honestly this was the generation whose story i really enjoyed with the plot compared to the other two.

Silvia Moreno-Garcia is a master. Her writing style is very unique and she can set the scene and mood with few words.

I am never disappointed when it comes to Silvia so this was no exception.

This was a bit of a slow burn but that’s okay it was setting the stage and I am very happy with the payoff.  It’s listed as horror and since I am not a horror reader I will say it didn’t feel scared. The closest to fear I felt was this overwhelming sense of dread as I was reading. Like each turn of the page made me feel despair. Especially in the 1908 POV.  (Alba has my heart 😭❤️)

I love all the characters though (except the antagonists. They can for fall off a cliff 😤)

Overall the 1908 timeline was my favorite. Alba is so strong and my heart aches for her. What she went through was rough and I can’t imagine the trauma she lived with.

Beatrice  I felt a lot of sympathy for and Minerva is incredibly strong in the face of evil and I love how she was always listening to music.

Overall a great read, Silvia Moreno Garcia never disappoints.  Her novels always have a great plot,  strong  characters and she’s so good at weaving different generes together. Love it. Love her 😌

A good witchy tale!
Definitely wouldn't call it horror though, so don't let that put you off if horror's not your thing. I'd called it mostly a mystery with a tiny smidge of gore but it's not in any grizzly detail. Also has a satisfying ending.
I liked learning about the Mexican witch lore.
