I won this book thru a contest here from the author. I'm not really sure how I feel about it, but one thing is that it ended up being kind of more crude than I expected considering it wasn't really necessary. Mutt is a werepanther wizard and leader of a village. After the supernaturals had bombed the world and taken over, vampires took control with the other supernaturals as kind of lesser leaders. The humans were left to scrape out an existence as servants or slaves to the supernaturals, or in one of the villages that were formed. The only humans who had decent lives were the ones who were already living inside of a walled city called Buckhead when the bombs were dropped. Mutt's life turns into a big mess the night he goes to Buckhead to dj for them and a vampire shows up and attacks everybody. Turns out Shannon's the head security guy's daughter and Mutt ends up having to take her home and take care of her. Having ignored a summons from the queen vampire for a while, he's always on guard for another vampire attack. The last comes in a way he didn't expect with Shannon being taken. There's a part of the city that people call dead town, and it has been expanding at an alarming rate. The queen wants Mutt to find out who was the one who created it and to find out a way to stop it. He was given a week. Considering his time limit, the first few days are pretty much wasted. There's a big battle with the vampires and he finally figures out the secret of dead town. I was curious about what was behind it and I guess it was kind of interesting. I was definitely surprised with what happened between Mutt and his kind of girlfriend Celeste at the end though. And the memorial that gets created sounds like it would have looked pretty neat.
