Far and away one of the most shocking, stunning, well written history books I’ve ever come across. Absolutely essential reading for anyone interested in this part of history, and I can’t see a book of this quality being superseded any time soon.

Nikolaus's attempt to chronicle the entire history of the camps is well researched and uses language that is accessible to people somewhat familiar with this part of world history. The size of the book can be intimidating, but a quarter of the pages is notes and appendixes.
