This book was just a series of unfortunate events.... everything you read for the first 400 pages was basically irrelevant. Bees? Irrelevant. Ellerie and her family issues? Irrelevant. All the townsfolk who got names and occupations? Irrelevant. I was bored to tears and finally gave up and found spoilers to see if it was worth finishing. And if you know me at all, you know I hate spoilers with a passion. It wasn't worth finishing... buddy read be damned.

i picked this up because i loved house of salt and sorrows. i didn’t think i’d love this one as much because i’m a sucker for dark seaside tails, but this actually outdid house of salt and sorrows. i loved everything about this book. if i could erase this from my brain to read it again for the first time, i would. my favourite read of this entire year.

i LOVE the main chracters (hell, even the bees) and the story and how it unfolded BUT i felt like i was robbed of an ending—a heartwarming one like some of the scenes in the book such as the downing family bonding with each other... the story felt like it stopped in the climax and everything in the end was a mess... when i got to the part where everything is being revealed i REALLY hoped that this "mess" wasn't going to happen, but it did and i got so sad because i truly expected more and because i know that this book has the potential to be something great (it is but it's an almost great) (´Д`。)
