It took me ages to get into this book, a good 75% before it wormed its way into my affections. I was baffled how everyone else seemed to love it and it was having the opposite effect on me (taking me almost 2 months to read it) but eventually something clicked and instead of being a chore to read it became a pleasure.
It reminded me of a book I read about 30 years ago called W G Grace's last case by Willie Rushton

Life worked in such a way that right was not necessarily right, but rather what the person in charge said was right.

I knew I had to read this from the title alone. I mean, that is a great title. I thought it was going to be along the lines of A Man Called Ove, but other than an elderly main character it really is nothing like it. The story moves between now (crawling out the window and all that happens) and Allan's fantastic life.
Feel-good, heart-warming, laugh-out-loud funny and a character that has lived his 100 years well.

I thoroughly enjoyed this story and had some good chuckles.

Seriously lacking any interesting female characters that serve the plot or do anything more than be love-interest-material for the male characters, but otherwise a great, funny read.

This was a fun read. Reminded a little bit of Forrest Gump

It was an interesting read, however, I did skim a lot of the political stuff. It was a very fantastical tale that is very reminiscent of Forrest Gump. Enjoyable, but not my favourite.
