Kiss of Smoke

The story has and interesting premise and some very hot elements but also has plot points big enough to hold a dragon family reunion. I will discuss below so only read below the dots if you don't mind spoilers.

You supposedly had a semi-famous attorney being caught having an affair and the confrontation is in the middle of an international airport yet no one caught the situation on cell phones which would have proven Chloe's version to her mother?

This was supposed to be a business trip. As the admin, Chloe would have been working on getting everything ready for whatever meetings, etc. were going to take place, and yet, not only did no business take place, they apparently just gave up their company to stay in Scotland.

As the bride's family usually pays for the wedding, wouldn't Chloe's mother have taken umbrage at the fact that she shelled out money for a society wedding only to have Josh announce his engagement to another woman so quickly after he claimed to Chloe's mom that he'd take her back after claiming the breakup was because of the business trip? Wouldn't that have confirmed Chloe's version to her mother?

If they could all read each other's minds in close proximity, why didn't they pick up her distress when Chloe overheard them and thought they only wanted her as a broodmare?

Speaking of which, we saw a lot of sex but not nearly enough relationship-building. Chloe was charmed into coming on the trip so it wasn't consensual. There needed to be a lot more trust-building. Sex and chocolate cake don't build a partnership.

If Chloe has been this magical battery all this time, why hadn't they picked up on that in the time that she worked for them? Why hadn't things occurred before?

And then, just as this magical deus ex machina is dropped on us, the only thing we see come of it afterward is that Chloe suddenly loses her moral compass and is willing to kidnap another immortal in order to experiment on them. Prior to this point, there was nothing in the story that would have suggested this characteristic.

I don't even really want to give this three stars because it WAS a super entertaining read: high heat, spice scenes starting early on, both m/m and mmf content.

But it's definitely silly. There's huge plot holes, there's perpetual miscommunication tropes popping up that the FMC freaks out about and then abruptly forgives, etc.

However, an easy, fun, entertaining read. A first from this author for me, I'd definitely check out other books of theirs but not sure I see myself continuing with this particular series.

Will this book win any literary awards? No. Did it lack substance and character development? Yes. Was it a quick, dirty read that pulled me out of a reading slump? Yes. Do I judge myself for my life choices? Yes.

Overall, it was okay. Story was good but I think it could have had more depth to it. What is it with MFC who can only think of guys as to how handsome/sexy/hot they are? Sheesh! Didn't they have any other redeeming qualities? Basically it seemed to me to be a MM romance (nothing wrong with that) and oh, let's add a female in there just to add spice. I didn't get the impression that the males were really all that in love/committed to the MFC. They were too wrapped up in themselves and their relationship. If she was upset/struggling, doesn't really bother them all that much, hey, let's just have sex with each other and maybe we'll get to her later because after all, our sex drive is the most important thing.

Kiss of Smoke was a low angst, steamy shifter read

Chloe is engaged to be married in a few short weeks, and is about to go on a work trip to Scotland with her two very handsome bosses, Lach and Alec. Lachlan and Alec are devoted to one another and have the type of love Chloe fantasizes about.

When Chloe discovers her fiancé has been cheating on her, Lach and Alex are there to pick up the pieces…and little does she know…they are not just devoted to one another…they are devoted to her, and they are dragons…Scottish dragons! Like Highlander Dragons! Yes, PLEASE!

Folks, there is no bangxiety in this book… it heats up pretty fast. Kiss of Smoke is a fated mate's PNR so I let all the insta just happen, and I am there for it! I found the book to be an enjoyable read. It was steamy, swords crossed, two hot dragons and one little female, good writing, and the story kept a smile on my face… for most of the book.

***** SPOILERISH*****
The addition of a trigger (without a Trigger or Content Warning) to the storyline of this book has made me feel conflicted. I'm fine with triggers, but many women could be triggered by this book, so I feel a disclaimer is in order.

Additionally, I felt that the trigger took me from a smile to a frown and it is now the main thing I remember from the book. If that had not been thrown in, this would have been a four-star book. Just my opinion…
*************************

With all that being said. I did like the book and I will probably look into the second book .. because hello… highlander dragon, sword crossing, hotness!

OMG! IT WAS GREAT!!
Lachlan and Alec are assumed to be gay and only have eyes for each other. When Chloe gets her heart broken by her (now) ex. Lachlan and Alec are there for her. At first I didn't know why Lachlan was so against Chloe being human and insisting it was just lust. Lachlan is convinced fate would not give him a weak mate,
Little does he know his mate is super strong and will be eating his words later on.
When you find out why he disliked humans it makes sense. Chloe is very independent and has opinions.
even in the third book. She has them wrapped around her finger and will not let her men tell her what to do.

The audiobook was fabulous!

This was just not for me. I tried and there were some good parts but I thought it lacked much of a plot.

Holy smokes, this book was HOT! AND I loved every second of it! There really wasn't a lot of character development, just pure smut, but that's how I like it!
