Received free from Penguin First to Read, but my thoughts are my own.
This is a true story, so you might already know how it goes. If you don't, and want to avoid spoilers, skip the introduction.
Sarah McBride didn't intend to make history. She simply wanted to be her authentic self. But the first transgender intern at the White House *is* history, so her story got some attention. But she's so much more than that. A tireless, brave advocate for affording all people equal humanity and dignity, she's been part of bills passed, protests, connections, and made the world a little more full of love in hundreds of ways.
Her coming out story was privileged, but still heart breaking at times, and her life is the same. Love and loss. Triumph and despair. Just like everyone's life, really. And overall, there's hope. Hope that, even as fear and ignorance rule today... tomorrow will be different. Better. Equal. Full of love.

Wow. This book blew me away. The author is wise beyond her years and her story about becoming an LGBTQ+ and trans activist is incredibly moving. So is the section describing a deeply sad loss in her life. Read it. It will change you.
Absolutely boring self-promoting campaign material. Two chapters in she says her political idol is literally Joe Biden lmao. Nothing interesting happens for way too long in the beginning to keep anyone engaged. DNF @ 6%

Great read about Sarah's life so far and her advocacy for transgender people.
What an inspiring story! Sarah McBride's story does a wonderful job of combining the personal and political.

I liked this book but it didn’t hold my attention.

What a wonderful book. I cried from its beauty thrice. Sarah McBride is a beautiful soul and I wish nothing but the best for her and our transgender bretheren.
