My very first reaction was a very small and very emphatic "Oh". Because why did I leave this on my shelf for so long? I don't remember. This book took my breath away and it's making me reconsider my stance of not reading online (the series can be read online on tumblr and pillowfort) because the storylines are so intriguing and so very captivating. I started this yesterday and told myself "one or two chapters a day" and now I've found myself unable to put it down. I just kept on reading and reading even though I *wanted* to stop because I wanted to savor it, I didn't want it to be over.
And anyway, I did stop reading... even if it was to pick up a pen and write down my thoughts about the characters. Because man... am I in awe of the characters. There's a massive cast of them, and while we don't get detailed descriptions of what they look like (small trickles only, and to be honest, I don't visualise when reading so this is perfect for me anyway), they all feel real. They have thoughts and feelings and even characters way in the background, who are simply named once or twice, appear so real that you could bump into them just around the corner. I'm... I'm just so very much in awe.
This book had me crying several times, and that's a compliment. I simply love it so much... (and I hope we can have the other books in paperback too!). Thanks, Tris, for writing this amazing amazing book (or actually... 'verse)!

Really strong start to a series. Works in a lot of world building that, while it makes the book long, never feels clunky or like it interferes.
