A girl has been found in the canal, her skin a delicate shade of blue. The detective in charge figures it's a suicide and not worth taking the time to investigate, but something about it bothers Constable Pringle so he decides to do a bit of digging on his own time (especially after the doctor's forensic examination revealed that she was a just-married bride) to find out who she was and what happened to her. He learns that you need to be careful what you wish for because the truth sometimes isn't a beautiful fairy-tale wish come true.

Enjoyed this short story about one of the secondary characters in the Murder Squad series. I'm a sucker for Victorian crime fiction, and this was a tasty little bit while I'm waiting for the next book in the series.

Grecian brings us back to London for a quickly solved whodunit with Pringle.

A nice short story about a fairly undeveloped character. I read this after book 4, so it was a nice revisiting. A good little mystery, could have been a bit longer and more fleshed out and still be novella length, but I was satisfied.

Good story, and makes me far more sympathetic to Pringle. Harrowing and sorrowful.

I didn't enjoy this like I do his full length books, but I'm glad I read it just the same.

Starting the year with a satisfying side story from the Murder Squad series. A little look into Colin Pringle's mind and approach to policing
