Some of them are good and reasonable and socialist. The vast majority are highly ungood and kinda scary. Very scary. Not good.

This is a great way to introduce yourself to the foundation of Chinese Marxist-Leninist thought, and to humanize and understand one of the most propagandized leaders in the Communist sphere. Very insightful for someone new to Chinese government ideals, wanting to look past western propaganda, or new to Marxist-Leninism in general.

What was so frustrating about this book is how it contradicts itself all the time. It's an important work of history but tough to stick it out to the end when it feels like you are reading someone trying to gaslight you.

it’s a really short book because it’s actually just excerpts from larger works and while it’s valuable to read the full context around the excerpts that became overwhelming.

in the end all you need to remember is that Democratic Socialism is the first step along the path to a Communist dictatorship, war, and famine.

Very good general overview of Mao's writings. It's a book of quotes so nothing too deep. I'd recommend (as I should have done) to read some of Mao's writings first so you have a fuller picture of Mao's theories and better context when reading this book. Is also a very good refresher I will refer to in future too.
