This is my favorite installment of The Vampire Chronicles. This is my third time reading The Body Thief, now as someone who is much older who can fully understand the severity of Lestats interest in being a human, in giving up immortality and seeking out simpler pleasures in life. The little things matter, orange juice and bad spaghetti are a few which our lovely MC experiences for the first time. But then we see how when he becomes ill, with the flu of all things, begins to detest being human while being the most inhumane and romantic walking contradiction I have ever read about. I love Lestat and hate him for betraying David - our sheer stupidity and jealously. All in all, worth a read. Absolutely lovely. Especially the theological debate with Gretchen and the love he had for her. Just - omg. Absolutely love this book.

Bonus: first time reading the audio book and the narration was ✨ heaven sent ✨

This book is my favorite so far. I loved the theme of the story and the concept. Still had brooding vampires in it but not so much as usual. Also a much better adventure then any of the other stories in this series. Hopefully the series stays as interesting through the rest of it.

Personally I just dislike it when everything that happens is due to the protagonist being stupid. If Lestat wasn't the dumb blond that he is, none of this would have occurred.
It was irritating and I found myself saying "I told you so!!" to the book multiple times.

That being said, Lestat did go through some wonderful character development that made me love him more, despite his idiotic behaviour. I can recognise that this was essential for him to go through in order for his character to grow and change.

I just wish Anne Rice loved him a tad less so that we could get some more content from the other characters that we know and love. I miss my wife Armand and his wife Daniel :(
