Finding this hard to rate cus if I could delete one scene
the one where Lestat rapes the waitress
this could be my favorite in the chronicles so far. Huge fan of how stupid Lestat is in this.

Years ago, I read the first 3 books in the VC series and a couple others (out of order) since then and decided to go back and catch up on this series. I also picked this up for the 2020 PopSugar category of 'a book published in the 20th century' (1991).

I waffled the whole time I read this because I always liked Lestat, but in this one I HATED him! He's an immortal petulant child. He does what he wants, takes what he wants, when he wants, doesn't care what anyone else wants and damn the consequences. Basically he's the vampire version on Donald Trump!

I could see what was going to happen between him & the body thief from miles away and when it happened, Lestat was surprised (I wasn't). He sought out advice from David & Louis, did exactly what they told him not to do and then he has the audacity to be surprised and angry that Louis won't help him.

I felt like I had to slog through all kinds of useless minutia to get through the story and about half-way through I would just skim the first sentence or so of each paragraph then skip to the next one. Somehow, I didn't seem to lose anything in the story by doing that, which of course means that there's simply too much extra crap in this. Also, once I started skimming, it went MUCH faster.

***SPOILER****
I will say that since I've read a few of these further along in the series, scenes in those books make WAY more sense to me now, knowing what happened to David towards the end.
