Another banger by Anne Rice

i know i said i was only reading the first 3 but i lied. this is a book for the real lestatcels who love him for the freak he is and don’t try to flatten his character to make him more palatable. he is a monster in this book, and that monstrosity was rooted in reality in a way that you can’t ignore or explain away. listen when anne rice cooks she cooks. those scenes could have been written more sensitivly but it’s anne rice she’s done worse than this. lestat believes he is evil so he does evil things to prove to everyone and himself that he is evil. and he enjoys it, then he regrets it, and we go around forever. that answers the question as to whether you can change if you have eternity to.

but this book was also literally a crack treated seriously fanfiction from an author who hated fanfiction so idk anne. lestat fighting for his life after 1 day in a human body was genuinely hysterical. no diva has ever been this down before.

the loustat and claudia material in this book went absolutely crazy i felt completely insane reading it. i was also not expecting to have real feelings over lestat and david but they genuinely loved eachother so much that i started to like david talbot which is a terrifying notion (if i get to the later books this will definitely change after his marius arc). lestat needing a 70 year old man biblically to the point that he couldn’t think about anything else kinda sent me into orbit.

but i really have to add david forgiving him after approximately one page is such bullshit why is anne allergic to people criticising lestat? yet armand was able to beef with him for centuries. that grudge could have been really interesting going foward but #whatever if she wants to throw away compelling character conflict that’s her problem.

this is really a great vampire chronicles book except for it’s one fatal flaw: armand wasn’t in it. give me my baby girl back!!!!!!!
