I absolutely adored this book as a kid, and I adore it now. The characters are all just so amazing and funny and I love them so much. The world is absolutely fascinating, and the lore for the Library is one of the coolest things I think I have ever read. Also, the ending was amazing;
Alexandra's gift being willpower was such a cool idea. It surprised me and influenced me a lot as a kid.

That said, I cannot comfortably recommend this book. It isn't diverse in terms of race, sexuality, disability, gender, etc. An abundance of sexist comments are played as funny, betraying the sexism of the author. And there is a magical creature that seems to be a racist caricature of indigenous/aboriginal people.
