Phil Noto's extraordinary talent as an illustrator is, sadly, the only redeeming quality of this issue. The story was bland and generic, with barely a hint of humor.

BADASS NATASHA!!!

"That's the sort of predator I am.A conflicted one,a deadly one, one alone...And you can't change my nature."

Honestly, if it wasn't for some language issues (terrible translations, yeesh) and some confusing panels, I would totally give this 5 stars. So maybe it's more 4.5? I also need to get my hands on the next volume. This one was beautifully drawn and easy for me to follow despite only knowing about Black Widow through the MCU. I definitely recommend it!

I absolutely loved this! Great plot, snappy dialogue and stunningly gorgeous artwork.

While I do still catch myself wondering how feminist the writer is, I am enjoying hearing Natasha’s thoughts and going through her missions with her. I would definitely recommend this to any Avengers movie fan, like myself. I don’t read comic books much but I am happy to have picked this one as the series for me.

THIS is what I've always wanted for Natasha. THIS is what I want her movie adaptation to be. THIS is my Bible tbqh.

The only superhero I used to stan for was Wonder Woman, but now I'm certain that Black Widow is added to this list. I also feel like this list is growing.

This novel flies, unfortunately. Beautiful art, and a tantalizing glimpse of what is going to be an excellent story.

I know that this has gotten rave reviews but it just wasn't my preference. People are lauding over it because, 'it's not even like a superhero comic' but maybe that's my biggest problem with it. I found that despite the brevity of the 'story' I was bored. It is less a backstory/origin issue as it is an introduction but I felt I learned little about Black Widow that I didn't already know. Her character just seemed flat to me and there wasn't much of a plot setup other than, guess what...she's going to be killing people, well duh she's an assassin.

I know a lot of people love the art but I'm not one of them, they whole whispy out of focus thing just makes me feel like I need reading glasses.
