“I believe with you, I could learn to fly.”
Oh my heart! Rachel Scott McDaniel has always been a favorite, go to author and in this book, she’s created a masterpiece. I was blown away by the gamut of emotions: surprise, suspicion, heartache, breathless anticipation, humor, swooniness, and suspense, just to name a few. I was immediately captured by the first chapter and couldn’t put it down.
I adore books set in the 1920’s and this story featured a different aspect of those times. There’s all the glitz and glamor of the Roaring 20’s, but also the exhilarating thrill of flying. Seeing airplanes was a rare treat in the countryside at that time, and the author reflected that excitement of wing walking and barnstorming. The arranged marriage, second chance romance was so incredibly well written and the mystery had me guessing and second guessing.
Heiress Geneva “Eva” Ashcroft Hayes is on the run after newspapers accuse her of murdering her husband, Warren Hayes. She was devastated after her husband’s airplane accident and vows to find the real killer. Posing as a barnstormer, she assumes the name of Stella Starling and travels from small town to small town following clues left by her husband’s now missing best friend. As she unravels the mystery, she finds a second chance at romance along the way.
I don’t want to say too much, because it’s so much better if you go into this story not knowing anything. I loved how the story is told from different periods in time. It starts in the present right after Warren’s death, but then goes back and forth beginning with the night they first met leading up to his plane accident. I loved their relationship and how it grew from an arranged marriage to true love. But, there are so many secrets and as each one is unraveled, I fell in love with these characters even more. The side characters ranged from the endearing residents of the small towns Eva visits to the utterly despicable. Filled with twists and turns, this story had me on pins and needles culminating in a thrilling, suspenseful conclusion.
Walking on Hidden Wings is historical romance at its absolute best! It’s a story I’ll be thinking about for a long time & I can’t wait to go back and reread it! All the stars and highest of recommendations for this achingly beautiful, sizzlingly romantic, captivating historical romance. I received an advanced complimentary copy from the author. I loved this one! Historical with some mystery is one of my favorite type of reads. Geneva's husband dies in a tragic airplane crash, although the marriage was still quite new and had been arranged, she did have feelings for him and does miss him. So she is shocked and knows something is very wrong when she gets accused of his murder. Bound to find out the truth of how and why, Geneva decides to do some sleuthing herself, but the more she finds the more confused she becomes and when she runs into someone from the past, she is shocked and really now unsure of what or who to believe. Using the guise of barnstorming, she goes from town to town searching for clues as well as anything that will clear her name. Wanted by the police, she does everything she can to stay hidden but when her mother's health takes a turn for the worse, she has no other option than to go home. Home may just be where her answers lie, but someone is determined to let Geneva take the fall and will go to all lengths it takes for this to happen. I really loved the characters, the storyline and the historical sprinkled through out. Thank you to the publisher and author for the complementary novel, this review is of my own opinion and accord.

I enjoyed this book. There is no fewer than 3 major plot twists, banter, suspense, and a less discussed relationship. I’ve already recommended this book to multiple people. Thanks to the author for the ARC. I loved the story. Kept me on the edge of my seat.

This book had me invested within the first few chapters, Rachel is great at mini cliffhangers… on multiple chapters! I loved the past and present timelines and how they were written. I’ve read some books where I lose interest about halfway through but not this book, Rachel did a fantastic job. There were twists and turns that I wasn’t expecting, and I loved every minute of it. I enjoyed the fun mix of history, mystery, and romance. Her writing is beautiful, easy to read, and completely captivates you into the story. I loved Geneva, her personality (funny, smart, quick wit), and her abilities as a wing walker and well Warren is amazing (I will leave it at that). I honestly suggest going into this book a bit blind as the story will pull you in, which makes the mystery and twists that much better and keeps you guessing and wanting to read more. I highly recommend checking this book out! I mean the cover itself is gorgeous but the story… is even better ✨

When the author reached out to me and described what this book was about, I was really interested. However, I didn’t know that I would end up loving it as much as I did!
This book is so interesting, romantic, and mysterious. I loved everything about it!
The 1920s New York historical setting was so fascinating to me. I especially enjoyed learning more about flying and how it was to be both a woman and pilot during this time. There were also some other fun historical details throughout the story that I loved, but I won’t spoil anything.
The romance was so well done! I have read very few books with this romance trope, but I really appreciated it. The characters were so sweet, and I love how they grew and learned to communicate.
I really enjoyed the mystery aspect of this story and never could guess what would happen next with the plot. I suspected so many different people, and I was still surprised at the end.
The author did a great job weaving the characters’ Christian faith throughout the story in a natural way, and I appreciated how the characters grew in their faith.
The dialogue between characters was so good, and I laughed out loud quite a few times at the things that Geneva would say.
Overall, I would recommend this book to anyone! I feel like a lot of people would enjoy this book because it is a great combination of genres.
I don’t know if the author is planning to write a sequel to this book with the way some things were left at the end, but I would be really interested to learn more about Geneva’s sister.
