I’m sad it’s over. But boy what a ride it’s been. In this series finale Mack as head of the task force (or council) assigned to bring their common enemy down is faced with one failure after another.

Being neither shifter, witch or fae but a being from their mythology and more powerful, all but the shifters accept Mack to guide them in defeating their enemy.

The bad guy is literally from another realm and slippery as all heck. Sadly the Lord of the Brethren can’t seem to get out of his own way. But Mack (always our hero) trudges through unwilling to give up (either on the man she loves or the people trusting her to save the day) even when faced with her own harbinger of death.

It isn’t until the Lord of the Brethren accidentally discovers a truth about Mack which she doesn’t even know about herself, that he finally comes to his senses and gets with the program.

Like a lot of our favorite fairytales, the girl kicks the bad guys ass, gets the guy and lives happily ever after. And Mack is no exception to this HEA rule.

Really, it couldn’t have ended any differently.

I'm going to give this a 3.5, rounded up to 4.

Mack, the FMC, can be hot-headed and impulsive - which sometimes walks the line of TSTL - but I get it in the context of her characterization, and nothing felt like a bridge to far. At least to me, but YMMV.

I liked most of the characters, though I did think she should frankly just have killed Anton. Also,
SpoilerJulia should frankly have killed him when he said he liked the taste of her blood and would go to great lengths to get it, because wtf? Even not knowing what she is, and why that would be the case, it's fucking twisted and that dickhead was going to kill her in the fight anyway. Kill him and call it a fucking day. Also, now he's alpha? Fuck off with that. He's the worst possible choice.

But I enjoyed it, and am jumping into the next.

I did not have high expectations for this book due to the cover (don't judge right?) and being on the Audible Plus Catalog. However, I enjoyed the story, was engaged throughout. I want to know what else will happen to Mac and so, eventually, I will read more in the series.

I enjoyed the story, specifically the fact that I couldn't guess every detail of the plot before it happened. I thought for sure the main character would turn out to be a full-blooded (or at *least* half) shifter that the world hadn't seen since the fifteenth century, but I was pleasantly surprised.

Another thing I enjoyed was a female protagonist whose strongest trait was that she has a temper and gets mad at sometimes-trivial things. It was refreshing because that is so rarely allowed--female characters are allowed to get angry, of course, but it's almost always a cold and dangerous anger. The protagonist's anger was very male--it made her impulsive and prone to starting a fight.

The writing, however, is what made it hard to get through "Bloodfire." It's mediocre and I don't have anything good to say about it.

I really enjoyed this, it was a nice introduction to the world and characters. The plot was gripping and the big reveal was much anticipated too, cant say too much in this review without dropping to much info but a great read.
