4 stars. Borrowed via KU.

This was my second IMM book and like Boyfriend Bargain, it started a little slowly but picked up. Elizabeth & Declan are both college students. Elizabeth was raped in high school (for those who might be triggered by this, it was a roofie situation and while the act itself isn’t detailed the immediate aftermath was).

Elizabeth has determined she won’t fall in love again, won’t date, and only has one-night stands. Declan, while originally/superficially comes off as a “bad boy”, is intelligent, perceptive, caring, responsible and protective.

Other reviews mentioned it was difficult to “connect” with Elizabeth ~ and maybe it wasn’t the author’s intent, but I sort of felt like it was the point. A realistic one at that. Her reactions & choices in response to being raped were normal. Maybe not healthy, but consistent with many victims.

There’s a lot going on in this story, but I really appreciated that it wasn’t the one-dimensional fluff that some NA books can be.

I’m looking forward to Dax’s book.

A short SEXXXY read, yet chock-full of angst, passion, tenderness, and romance. YUM.

You know how when there is a lot of hype about something, it usually isn't worth it?? This time it is SO WORTH IT!!!!!!! I will admit a fell for the cover and the title before I read the synopsis. Once I started reading, I no longer cared about the cover. What was inside was so much better. This was the first book I have read but the author. If the rest of her books are half as good as this one she has a fan for life. Dirty English was a wonderful romance. They had their struggles (with being a rape victim) violence, booze, were big turnoffs for Elizabeth Bennett. Declan Bray is a tattooed fighter. Judging by first appearances can be deceiving. Declan may look like a scary, undeducated thug, but he is a romantic quoting Pride and Prejudice. If ever there was a story that fits the saying "love conquers all" this is it. Declan is an alpha with a capital "A". Elizabeth finds her inner strength. Together they can and will survive.

  • Plot- or character-driven? A mix
  • Strong character development? It's complicated

I think I am in the minority with this book when rating it. I wasn't a huge fan of it. Couldn't feel the chemistry between the two and didn't enjoy the writing much.

A sweet story with lots of angst. Two broken people...
One looking for love and one trying to avoid it at all cost.
Declan and Elizabeth don't see eye to eye on anything other than mutual attraction. Will that be enough? She wants one night and he wants more. She refuses to give more and he wants all. As a street fighter who quotes Jane Austen, Declan has an unusual presence. He's gorgeous and has an accent, but he's also a nerd.
Well, if Elizabeth doesn't want him, I'll take him

this reminds me of another book I read, maybe because of the neighbor trope and the one where the guy punches the other guy threatening the girl on their front door, (i think it is meetme halfway, gonna update this if I find the other title) I've read I think two of something like this, and man I am now a sucker for these tropes hahaha ♥
