Start Your Engine (hehe)

I was introduced to author, Chelle Bliss, when I read "Men In Power" a compilation of romantic short stories by a variety of authors. Next, I received an awesome email introduction and option to join her newsletter. That was an easy decision and of course I joined. I want to know more about her writing, books already written and what's coming soon. Two perks of joining her newsletter is receiving this book for free AND the second book in this series! Awesome, I know. Honesty is important to me and it's why this review includes how I obtained a copy of the story.

Overall, I thoroughly enjoyed reading "Throttle Me" but felt it lacked a little creativity. For example, the name of the tattoo shop is Inked. Boring! Character names and nicknames are clever, but the name of the business is a dud. By the end of the story I was disappointed by the lack of character background details for both Joey/City and Suzy/Suzette. As a reader I want to really get to know the characters and this story didn't give me enough.

Full Throttle is the first book of a series and usually that means I can't wait to read more about the other characters. Sophia's story is likely to be really good, but I have few details to recall about the others, including Joey's family and the guys at the bar. I haven't looked ahead nor read the blurbs to see who gets their story told in this series. Guess it will be a surprise when I "crack the spine" for book #2.

If you're a reader looking for a Contemporary Romance with gobs of detailed sex, profanity and a happy ending, then Full Throttle will get your engine revved. Enjoy!

2 "how can he put up with her" stars

Let me put this straight : I did not have huge expectations when starting this book. I knew I was going for one of the usual romance stories : low angst, kickass male MC, gorgeous female MC not used to kickass boyfriends and having a personal issue ... the usual ... and that's fine, because I need simple short books just to spend some good time, and I usually love them.

So why two stars only ?

Well ...

Low angst : check

None actually. We get City playing the knight in shining armor at least three times (always in the same way), and yet
Spoiler the only time we all know years ahead that the situation might be dangerous for Suzy, City decides to stay behind to joke with his friends . It's all so predictable that you could wonder why to go on with the book at all.

Kickass male MC : check

City has all the qualities to fit in the role.
So much so that it sometimes feels forced. Typically he always talks with either fu*k or sh*t every two words like it's his normal type of speech, and suddenly he delivers a heartfelt tirade without any of those at all ...

Gorgeous female MC not used to kickass boyfriends and having a personal issue : check

Except that her personal issue is supposed to provide most of the book's angst ... and it just falls short ... in a big way.
Spoilers ahead : stop reading if you don't want them.

We are supposed to believe that the girl is intelligent (math teacher) and that she was brought up by rich but uncaring parents, so she created her own family with her best friend and her boyfriend who is definitely not the type of person her parents would approve of. And yet she still sticks to a life plan ingrained in her by her mother to find a rich, stable man, the nice house and the picket fence ... Ok that I can still manage to understand.

But the way she intends to drop City just because he doesn't fit into this frame, although she accepts Kayden, is never presented to us in a way that could make any sense.
Worse, she intends to drop him all on her own with no communication AT ALL.
This has nothing to do with an intelligent / responsible person behavior. This is called being a nasty selfish bitch.
So when City does all the job to get them back together, and that he keeps thinking of her as a "kind heart", I just wonder why we never got to see her kindness.

Ok end of rant !...

Oh no, one more : I was silly enough to buy the whole series because some of them were freebies at the time ...

Throttle Me, the first book in the Men of Inked series by Chelle Bliss, is raw, witty, entertaining, and hot with a bit of angst. This book is a breath of fresh air...an easy read that flows well. This story takes you through the lives of Suzy and City and is narrated by them in alternating viewpoints, so it feels as if they are talking to the reader and one can easily grasp the characters' thoughts.
The first book is about city and Suzy, and he is so hot and sexy just the type of man that Suzy thought she didn't need or want. City didn't give her much of a choice because once he had her, he had to have more of her, and he wouldn't take no for an answer. The more she pushed him away the more he wanted her. It was a hot and steamy battle, but he finally wore her down and claimed her. These two are as different as night and day. She needs to learn to let her hair down and he needs to love again. The internal push and pull between these two cracks me up. She is little but mighty and oh how the mighty fall. Great story and she is feisty and just what he needed!

3.5 stars , not much plot.

Oh man, I should have read this sooner, although I'm glad I was able to listen to the updated audiobook. While there are some intense scenes, I actually laughed out loud a few times. City and Suzy are a great couple. I just loved the story as a whole and look forward to others in the series.

Lance Greenfield and Samantha Brentmoor, loved their narration, they definitely added emotions to their characters.

I received this audiobook at my request and have voluntarily left this unbiased review. This does not affect my opinion of the book or the content of my review.

I really liked this it was cute, fluffy, hot and City is to die for. Gotta love a man with a Harley and covered in tattoos.

Super hot!

Built, sexy, tall, dark, tattooed, Harley driving artist meets shy, obsessive compulsive, closet freak elementary school math teacher. This book was great! The Gallo family are a great addition to my love for tattoo artists romance books!
