A emotional journey

This is an emotional and realistic portrayal of the adoption process. I was very intrigued to find out how Joe and Alex coped with the process. Years ago me and the wife desperate to have kids and had been trying but with no success started considering adoption but before it could kick off we finally became pregnant. You really feel the emotions as you read about what Joe and Alex went though. The anxiety of all the ups and downs especially when their son’s birth parents try to contest the process although, and gladly, unsuccessfully. I found the issues they had with their son’s behaviour strangely funny. It’s because you get that with all children, adopted or not. And we have had plenty of that with our son. There was a bit that I found a bit hard to read and it hit a bit of a nerve. The bit about Baby L, the fact he was autistic and you didn’t want to adopt him because of that. Being truthful here that hit a nerve because our son is autistic so it came across to me a little selfish. However thinking about it some more, although our lives are filled with joy there are plenty of hardships and for someone to adopt an autistic child I can see you have to be 100% sure of what you’re letting yourself in for and be prepared for it. That’s what this book does. It gives you the cold hard facts and goes in lots of detail in what to expect if you want to adopt.
