I know the end was just playing in my head on repeat
i read this book speedily! i really liked how it could have been taken in a direction of an apocalyptic mad zone/ action packed / insurgency but instead it went into deeper concepts of hope in time of complete uncertainty and existential crisis. the characters could have been better developed, but i enjoyed it
2.5 stars
This has a powerful premise, but I can't decide if the story spiraled out of control, or if it fizzled. Can both of those things happen simultaneously? That concept, though...

I'm completely in love with this book! The way the author switches view points every chapter, it kept me interested in the book. I also love how the author portrayed that all of these people are more than their labels, and each character had complexities that made them very real.
A meteor is hurtling through space on a collision course with earth. This book is the story of multiple characters and their end of the world story, and how society reacts to impending doom.

To say this book was disappointing is an understatement. I thought that a book about a world ending asteroid would be more introspective, philosophical, and deep than it was. Instead it ended up being a very bad take on the breakfast club where it was very apparent that it was written by a male author with its shallow depictions of each character’s stereotype. And because of this it left little to no room for any real character development. All the characters desperately need therapy and parents who actually act like parents. The level of angst in this book couldn’t be balanced well with the authors writing style to the point where even when a character SPOILER ALEART dies I could not care less about that character’s death.
There was so much casual sexism, classicism, and racism it was astounding. Not to mention the fact that this author thought it’d be a great idea to have the token trans character (who appears in all of 2 scenes if that) be referred to as “Jess-who-used-to-be-a-girl.” I honestly cannot believe that 1. The author thought I’d be okay to call a character that 2. An editor saw nothing wrong with it 3. That part actually made it to print. And the cherry on top of all of that is that Jess is a gender neutral name.
Overall, the book is like if a pretentious fedora-wearing wanna-be hipster white guy came up to you after having one too many drags to talk about the possibly end of the world but he really has no idea what he’s talking about and keeps losing his train of thought. I wish I could get the time back I spent reading this booking waiting for it to get better and hit its mark.

I tried so hard to both hate and love this book. The premise was up my alley - people given a few months to live and a book full of self exploration. In this baseball game of literature, the batter hit the ball and made it to 2nd base. Not exactly a hole run but satisfactory nonetheless.
There were some absolutely ridiculous scenarios that made me mutter "this would literally never happen". The author did a fairly good job at nailing believable characters - save for the skater. It felt as if the "cool punk skater" archetype was being pushed way too hard. I cringed at a lot of the dialogue Andy was given.
There were some parts in the book where I could not believe what I was reading, and I was thinking "why are they doing this...?". However, there were also parts that left me in awe of what I just read. Real tug of war for my heart, if you will.
There are some good messages in this book, and the ending was actually incredibly beautiful. If you're looking for something life changing, this book wasn't it - for me, at least. But there's something about putting this novel down that made me want to hug my loved ones and tell my crush how I feel. 3/5

Kinda on the fence about this one. I'm not one to be into sci-fi but I don't even know if this can be classified as scifi... The characters were equally lovable and cringe-worthy but I didn't really understand what the ending was about. I mean did it hit? Was it going to? Was it all just mass hysteria that turned the world into a dystopia... who knows.
