As a whole, I don't think this arc complements or lends to any forward progression in the overall story of Star Wars. We are spending so much time in this story, and it's not mentioned again to my knowledge throughout the rest of canon.

The things I did appreciate-- the mentions of Palpatine, the empire made people believe he was still alive, and the people who knew they weren't saying he would return. The plan was in place well before TROS, and it's very much in your face about it. If you don't want to read the EU-- google it.

There was not real pacing to this book. It was jarring story, dialogue that was dull and lifeless, and I felt no stakes and I didn't care when people died.

It's also scary that the tie fighters remind me of hitler youth. A lot of Lost Stars lends to this story. How the academy works, force graduating kids too young to fight in a war for someone else's immortality.

I just didn't enjoy this arc. I think giving it a 2 was generous.

Although it had potential I ended up at the end of run wondering what on earth had happened, what was the point and was that the past or present? It had really interesting characters and a great set up and ultimately suffered for being treated just as a prequel for the Alphabet Squadron novel rather than a story in its own right. Perhaps it will make a lot more sense once I've read the novel - which as a Rogue Squadron fan I've been extremely excited for - but on its own it severely lacks for me.

A fun, breezy read that lives up to its premise, TIE Fighter is definitely one of the better Star Wars comics. It's perhaps not the best direct companion to Alphabet Squadron, as there's few mutual characters and the tone here is quite different. But I enjoyed it thoroughly, reading it easily in a day on my phone (yay, Kindle Unlimited!). Multiversity Comics' brief review on the back is spot on; this comic "Gives a view of a sympathetic portrayal of Imperial pilots without requiring us to feel worse about the Rebellion". There's a lot of canon stories that seem to play with who was right in the Galactic civil war and try to portray the Imperials in too kind a light and/or portray the Rebels in a really bad light. TIE fighter strikes a rare balance between the two. Ordinary soldiers just doing their jobs, trying to protect the people of the galaxy. There's fun moments, banter, and a bit of heartbreak. My biggest problem was that there were too many characters and some of them got lost in the shuffle.
Looking forward to continuing this series at some point, probably well after Alphabet Squadron's release as I'll be waiting for the TPB..

An ambiguous ending that undermined the whole book.

A great end of the Rebellion era, Star Wars read. Though I'd expect no different fr Jody Houser.

In these five issues, Houser and team not only throw readers into the near end of the Galactic Civil War but also draw them into the shared life of Shadow Wing.

This run is also part of an excellent development in Star Wars lit: complex Imperials. SW is so black/white, light/dark, that it's nice to have gray.

My only complaint is the "tie-in" nature of this book at times kept me thinking that I was missing something, i.e., from Alphabet Squadron.

Overall a great read that I highly recommend.
