3.5; this book was definitely better than the first one. we saw some good character development and overall a slightly better plot progress. it still lacked in the quality of writing, but i feel like the author is definitely growing there.

ren has a good development, he feels less shallow and more of a proper mc now. it's still a bit difficult to connect to most of the characters, but i feel myself slowly starting to care about ren, thais and ilias. i'm not sure about anik yet, i don't know why. he's a good person and he's very loyal, but i his past opens up a lot of questions that i hope to get answered in book 3.
i am unsure if i can really imagine what the lowlands are yet and where they stand (how do you make two whole kingdoms hate them so damn much when in reality they're nothing like that; they're such distinctive community yet they're so defeated and repressed - is there a reason for that?) the world building def needs more work.
Spoilerplus, i don't like how fast he was to leave w/o questioning anything; what if evalyn was lying? where did his steady rationality go?

i like how they slowly grew to care for each other.
Spoilermy favourite like was the "i care about you" line at the end. the kiss was so sweet and the moment was overall so soft. i'm curious what's gonna happen of them in book 3. i hope anik doesn't stay away for too long.

the modern wording in dialogues, especially when it comes to profanities, is still highly unnerving. that small detail kept throwing me off. at one point ren said "heck" or when he said "oh, for fuck's sake, do it, man." i'm... no.

I enjoyed this a lot, I like almost all characters, it's well written and entertaining and there were a lot of awesome plot twists.
The only bad thing I have to say is that there also seem to be quite a few plot holes - or at least things aren't always explained that well, so I am confused by some character's motivations, their pasts, how things fit together as well as how much time passes between things happening.

Overall still very good and enjoyable!

I adore the entire series, but I think the second one is my fave. All of the characters - new and old - are just so easy to love. There's some bits (that I won't name for spoiler reasons) that really made me want to cry, but in a good way? The writing is just so lovely to read and the emotional scenes really pack a punch!

I liked this one a little less than the first one, but that might just be a middle book thing. That being said it was still very entertaining. I loved the relationships and the characters. I couldn't put it down once I started reading it.

“I have nothing left. I wanted it to stay that way because it was safer, and still, you made me care about you, you asshole.”

I’m so much more invested in this story and the characters! I am loving how Anik and Ren’s relationship is developing. How their bond between each other is getting stronger little by little! I need more of them
