If you like books where the main character can see ghosts, and with more twists and turns than a maze, then this book is for you.

It does end on a cliffhanger though. Be prepared. And there will be several points in the book where you got to just pause and ✨process✨ what just happened. In a good way tho. I really enjoyed it!!

This book was every bit as entertaining, chilling, twisted, and enjoyable as the first.

I was surprised when this story focused so much on the romance. Then it surprised me again by being sweet, gentle, and almost like a daydream.
I spent half the book on the edge of my seat sure things were about to go terribly wrong.

And BOY did they. Once the chilling secrets started to show up they felt like a waterfall sweeping me along at a mad rush along with Verity. Every twist was a jarring mix of anticipation, hope, uncertainty, and fear. Every answer made perfect sense yet offered 3 more questions.

The plot is a wonderfully example of the dangers of ego and "playing god".

The ending made me want to throw the book across the room in the best possible way, and I can't explain why without major spoilers. It's the kind of ending that makes me speechless and shaking my head because "that can't be right!" You'll have to read it for yourself to truly understand what I mean...

What did I just READ?

I greatly preferred this to House of Salt and Sorrows, but take that with the grain of salt that this book is kind of way more insane in its twists and turns. The pacing is pretty typical for the first half and breakneck in the second, but I didn’t find it overly jarring.

The only thing that may not hit for everyone like it did for me is that the characters themselves, or at least the main pair, are easily the least interesting part of the book. I do think that the wheelchair user representation is super intriguing—the conversations between the main two about it are very sweet, the accommodation of it in the main setting is cool, the fact that we’re not ignoring ableism’s existence is nice!

Overall, dying to know what happens next, hoping this isn’t a standalone??

I’m torn on this one - it’s incredibly atmospheric, immersive, gripping, a unnerving gothic fairytale turned horror and the plot twists were well executed. But there’s so many trigger warnings, I can’t call this a light read or easily recommend it without warning.
