I thought this novel brought a very interesting perspective in terms of morality and character. The plot was intriguing and the character arcs full of twist and turns.

“Your worst sin is that you have destroyed and betrayed yourself for nothing.”

AP Lit. I enjoyed parts of it (mainly the parts where Raskolnikov felt nihilistic and questioned the nature of life itself) although much of it felt like a wormhole of random storylines and a bunch of Russian people doing unnecessarily stupid stuff.

dostoevsky’s endings always make me cry

I'm not sure at what point in this book I started loving it, but love it I did. And I can't even tell you why I loved it. Parts of it were difficult to get through and Dostoyevsky himself practically said "the dude's talking nonsense" after 4 pages of dialogue. I loved Raskolnikov almost despite myself; he was irritating and moody and a little insane but Sonia and Dounia's love for him infected me. And the ending was beautiful, a picture of Gospel forgiveness and renewal. It's a commitment, it's a drag sometimes, but it's worth it.

I feel like I could write a lot on this.
Though it did loose my interest - OMG ITS SO MUCH LONGER THAN I COULD MAINTAIN FOR! - I can appreciate how amazing it is.
I really enjoy Russian literature as the 'автор' isn't concerned about their own image (e.g. Nabokov).
This was interesting to read, to read into so much depth in the corrupted character that it becomes so real?!
SPOILER - Do I think the Russian justice system was too easy? Yes. Do I agree with Dostoevsky on what true crime is? No.
