"Many find it dull: Henry James could not finish it: all I can say is, it nearly finished me."
- Robert Louis Stevenson

I went into this with a tired open mind, a long-suffering heart, and gritted teeth. I do not have a deep interest in Western philosophy nor do I plan to; hence I do not possess any profound thoughts in regards to this. I do not know if it is because of my current situation that I identified with Raskolnikov's spiraling anxiety perhaps a little too well and appreciate Dostoevsky's writing on the subject. It is a tome and sure feels like it to read. As appropriately vividly written as dull and depressing as St. Petersburg was, I assume. Objectively, it is good. Personally, I will only read this once in my life and never again. I appreciated the experience and atmospherics more than the message and overt symbolism, honestly.

Meanwhile the sun is setting.

Loved it, but honestly, it did NOT have to be that long

someday i will brutally murder someone in pure unadulterated rage, and the public will cry "why, raniya!? why did you do it?!" and i will say "raskolnikov is literally me fr" like every pseudointellectual teenage boy to ever live and pass of a heart attack right there

jokes aside, bit slow and not my favourite classic but i do find myself thinking about its messaging from time to time
