The second act of the End Of State trilogy picks up nicely from the first book and continues the story seamlessly as Brad, Mariette, Marcus, and Daniel have their faith tested further by the political maneuverings of President Fitzhugh and the Antichrist, Nicolas Carpathia. These four realize they have come too close to uncovering a massive scandal involving Fitzhugh's administration, and subsequently find their lives threatened. All the while, they are aware of the coming doom of the Tribulation, and watch Carpathia in absolute dread as he cements his power as world leader, and ultimately as a servant of Satan.
