Lowkey a good, cozy but also high stakes mystery. Loved the characters
This should have been great! A shy Lara Croft, but add a cuppa to make it British... Sounds wonderful!
But honestly... this just didn't do it!
All the characters felt so one-dimensional, and the back story in Cairo just lacked whatever. I think that's my overall issue with this book: the whole thing is lacking in that one thing that would make it great. I honestly can put my finger on it, but overall, it was just plain boring, and I found myself often skipping entire paragraphs to just make time go faster. I truly need to learn to DNF books *sighs*

4.5 stars, not because it’s the greatest mystery I’ve ever read, but because there were enough unique elements in it as a concept that I just thoroughly enjoyed it and would recommend it now as yet another delightful romp in a small English village hunting down a murderer. Absolutely loved the antique hunter premise, esp. since I grew up with my parents watching Antiques Roadshow. Big reveal at the end wasn’t the most shocking I’ve ever read (I had it mostly figured out, although not everything). But it followed Knox’s rules of Detective Fiction fairly well, so it worked.
Great for those who love:
- “Curl up and read” mysteries
- English village mysteries
- antiquing and museums
Zero drawbacks or objections.
Audio version was delightful (the female narrator has wonderfully unique voices for each character without being ridiculous. I got to where I easily knew who was talking without a name announcement).
