This was an enjoyable read, although it did take me some time to get through it.

It is all short horror themed stories, with the book composed of two main sections.  The first is a section of stories by “grandmasters”, classic writers of the horror genre, including stories by Poe, Lovecraft, Faulkner, Stoker, amongst others. The next section is “modern masters”, which really isn’t too modern since the book is from 1981.

I enjoyed the classic writers section much more than the modern writers.  The stories in that section were a bit hit and miss for me.  As with any short story collection, most people will probably find something they enjoy in here as well as stories they don’t care for.  In terms of short story horror collections, I do think this one stands out as better than most.
