Raamat oli vaatamata lõpule õigupoolest ju ikkagi hea, sünge, kuid huvitav...Ilmselt vihkaksin seda rohkem, kui ma poleks juba ette teadnud ja jõudnud juba ka mõttega harjuda :)

The unique setting, three-dimensional characters, and beautiful writing have made the Shetland Island mystery series one of my favorite contemporary mysteries. In the fourth installment, Inspector Jimmy Perez has brought his fiancé home to Fair Isle to meet his parents. The tiny island is a magnet for birdwatchers, who congregate at the lighthouse and local inn. When a local married celebrity with an eye for handsome young men is found murdered, Perez discovers suspects who are close to him. While I found the mystery engaging on its own, the book's ending was completely unexpected and left me in shock. I plan to read the fifth installment soon to find out what comes next, and have the sixth book lined up to read as soon as I finish the fifth one. If you haven't discovered this series yet, add it to your TBR list today!

Mais uma vez, lento a início e a meio, com a segunda morte, ganha ímpeto. Mas a terceira morte, a morte da Fran, era mesmo necessária?! Contudo quero ver o que a morte da Fran traz ao desenvolvimento do Perez.

A good detective yarn in a series with investable characters. I need someone to tell me how to watch the telly box set. If I were Jimmy I’m not sure I’d have done some of those things. I mean, one of a just a few was a killer, clearly premeditated. I can’t say any more lest I give the game away. It rattled along perfect fir a weekend away

Dare I compare Ann Cleeves with Shirley Jackson? Yes, I certainly will!

After being in a reading rut for quite some time, I’ve decided to take up the Shetland series, remembering how much I enjoyed Vera. What a treat it has been so far. While the first books were very good, this one is superb!

A group of people from all walks of life gather at a secluded house to do some scientific work.
Jane leaves behind her troubled past, just to fall immediately in love with the place: “There had been the excitement of discovery. It had occured to her then - and it still did - that this was like meeting a lover. There was the first affectionate glimpse, then the growing understanding”
Then there is Angela a flamboyant scientist, Hugh, a young spoiled brat... even the center has a feel of an old castle. It certainly reads like a modern take on “The haunting of Hill House” and I absolutely loved it!

Add a gothic description of island life during a storm and then the sinister atmosphere builds up to a true Agatha Christie murder mystery with a perfectly sad but blurry end. This is a book that I will read again, just to be plunged into that island atmosphere again.

Bravo, Mrs. Cleeves!

I read the first of the Shetland Islands quartet shortly after returning from a trip to that beguiling place, and very much enjoyed it. Recently I was bookless before a transatlantic flight, and there was Blue Lightning, so I picked it up. I found it rather slow going, and perhaps because I hadn't read the second and third books, I didn't feel especially attached to the couple of Jimmy and Fran. They were interesting enough as characters, but seemed not all that well developed. I didn't understand why the POV kept shifting, either--from Jane to Dougie and back to Jimmy. Nor did I understand exactly why the last woman was killed. To finish off the series is not a good enough reason, and by then the jig was certainly up, so killing her served no purpose of self-protection. And to say the murderer was just crazy is a cop-out. So... not entirely satisfied. But I will go back and read the second and third books as well, because I do enjoy the Shetland theme.

So I came back to this book series, even thought I thought I was done. In the past month I’ve gone back to work, taken on the stress of that during Covid and dealing with stupid people. So I found myself missing traveling to the Shetland Islands at night and losing myself in the landscape and the people.

I was excited to hear we were traveling to Fair Isle, a place I heard so much about in the first three books.

Once again, I didn’t guess who the murder was. Crime only being something I read occasionally.

But the author broke my heart. She killed off a main character with no remorse absolutely devastating me. My mother, who watched the series told me of the character’s death. Well, she is alive and well in the books! From the details my mom told to me, I figured I had more time.

Me the next day… I’m going to need some time to recover and mourn.
Also me the next day… Downloads the next book.
