An uproarious collection of short stories about love, the book is a thoroughly enjoyable (if sometimes depressing) time. Bob-Waksberg understands that being in love is a complicated affair be it platonic, romantic, dog to human, or human to President monster. A majority of the stories are wonderful, perfectly balancing humor and insight through some truly creative premises that keep everything refreshing and engaging. There are one or two larger stories that stumble and stray too far into the bizarre, but the best ones will be in my thoughts for quite a while.

This was such a delightful collection of short stories, though I also recognize that Bob-Waksberg, the creator of BoJack Horseman, has a particular sense of humor that won’t work for everyone. In other words, if you’re a fan of the television show, this will definitely be up your alley. If not, you may want to skip this one.

Much like BoJack Horseman, the characters and situations in each story were so flawed due to people being... well, people. It was also interesting to see the slight shifts in writing style for some stories (nothing revolutionary), which added to the unique perspective that each story brought. As humorous as many of these stories were, there was always a bittersweet (often leaning more towards bitter) feeling that lingered.

I listened to the audiobook alongside reading the book, especially after seeing that the cast of narrators included quite a few voice actors/actresses who appeared in the show. They brought so much life to each story and I think made the book even more enjoyable for me. Like any short story collection, some stories were a little duller than others, but again, I think the audiobook really saved those less interesting ones, and highly recommend listening to it.

A hilarious and emotionally profound book. Read this if you want to laugh and cry and feel giddily human.

I found some of the stories a bit strange and slow, thus the 3 stars.

I really liked the stories:  Lunch with the Person Who Dumped You, rufus , Rules for Taboo, Move Across the Country and You Want to Know What Plays Are Like?
The author has a really unique voice and every story is completely different. I thought some dragged a bit too long.

although some of the short stories were better than others, it was a strong book overall and i enjoyed most of them. the writing style is fun and creative, the plots are bizarre and comedic, and the feelings are strong and emotional. a lot of the takeaways are about love and the ways it changes us, but also the way it can bring out more of who we already are.
