An uproarious collection of short stories about love, the book is a thoroughly enjoyable (if sometimes depressing) time. Bob-Waksberg understands that being in love is a complicated affair be it platonic, romantic, dog to human, or human to President monster. A majority of the stories are wonderful, perfectly balancing humor and insight through some truly creative premises that keep everything refreshing and engaging. There are one or two larger stories that stumble and stray too far into the bizarre, but the best ones will be in my thoughts for quite a while.

Both alcoholism and animal death are baked in the premise of stories —

superheroes who can only be powerful when drunk and debate about how many goats to sacrifice for a cult wedding.

They are done in a smart and provocative way to explore a deeper theme, but the content may not be for everyone.

Absurdist sentimentality in short stories that sometimes lends to deeply vulnerable social commentary, but just as often falls flat. A bit of a mixed bag, though none that were actually bad - though, only a few that were actually good.

A hilarious and emotionally profound book. Read this if you want to laugh and cry and feel giddily human.

I found some of the stories a bit strange and slow, thus the 3 stars.
