I didn’t care about anyone or anything

I didn’t completely hate it, but I also didn’t love it. This was a book I have gifted for Christmas, so I felt obligated to read it. I probably wouldn’t have picked it up otherwise. So I’ll start with the positives. This was my first Chuck Palahniuk book and it was interesting enough that I would be willing to read something else of his. Other pros about the book:
1. It’s a really short and easy read.
2. It’s interesting enough to keep your attention.
3. It’s has aspects of a good mystery novel, such as making you guess and what’s actually going on and a twist ending.

That said, not my favorite book and not something I would recommend to just anyone.
1. Even though the sex/porn parts aren’t horribly graphic, there were parts that were very hard to stomach.
2. There were also parts that I had to reread because the way they were written made it hard to follow.

I can see why people like this book, but I also see why it’s not his top rated book.

Definitely read like something I’d be asked to read in a postmodern lit class. A little grimy. Overall enjoyable

Palahniuk's disgusting, true to life descriptions are my favorite thing about his novels.

If you can handle the truly unpleasant subject matter and setting, you'll find a well-crafted story and unforgettable characters. But the best thing about the book -- and I'm guessing this is why Palahniuk wrote it -- is the never-ending list of porno movie titles. Making these up will be my new favorite parlor game. "The Ass Menagerie." "Beat me in St. Louis." "Lay Misty for Me."
