I generally like Palahniuk, but not so much here. Snuff is not funny or particularly clever. It crosses to the bad side of absurd so quickly that you don't have time to find your bearings, and it doesn't help that the chapters bounce around in no discernible order between four characters who are all basically the same. Don't waste your time on this one. It isn't even worth reading just to see how it ends, as the end is especially ridiculous and doesn't flow very well with the rest of the story.

I'll be honest, Some of the "bad reviews" really confuse me. I understand this is a strange subject to write about, and that porn/sex/erotica make a lot of people "uncomfortable", especially when it involves toys, non-straight sex, drugs, "deviance", etc. But... This is Chuck Palahniuk, he writes about uncomfortable things, and uses characters that come alive on the pages. Yes, this is probably one of his shortest fiction books, but he wrote an interesting story, and honestly, this is classic Palahniuk story telling.

What I am trying to say is... Don't let the bad reviews scare you away. Don't listen to the people claiming this is the beginning of Palahniuk's downfall. Don't believe the people claiming you can look at their previous Palahniuk reviews. No... instead, consider this Palahniuk's mission accomplished. He invoked people's Fight or Flight response, separated the wheat from the chaff, and is doing what he does best; making the intangible tangible, the unfamiliar familiar, the misunderstood understood.

Readers of Chuck Palahniuk, and his brand of bizarre absurdist fiction will love this short work. An insightful look into the people who gravitate in and around the adult industry. Their choices, their decisions, their delusions, all delivered in typical Palahniuk style. The regurgitation of strange facts, the characters that stay with you, the anxiety of everything.

Well-researched and I always like how dialogues between characters go in Palahniuk's novels. Although the entire story didn't excite me that much. It was ok. An interesting world to see though, Snuff movies..behind all the crappy soundtrack and 'cheesy' story lines.

Pretty sick in parts, but I liked the pacing and the descriptions that just hit the nail on the head. I shall definitely be reading more by Palahniuk!

Not my favorite Chuck Palahniuk but not the worst. It was just ok. Weird concept. Story told from 4 point of views of people waiting to take part in a record breaking gang bang. The writing wasn’t as disjointed as some of Palahniuks work but it still comes across as being vulgar for the sake of shock value.

Not my favorite Palahniuk read. The book is, probably too simply, about nothing. The three men just talk. Little plot points are revealed here and there. But I just felt like the story wasn't going anywhere; it stalled and stalled for me, several times.
That being said, I still love his writing style. It's aggressive and excessive and witty and brilliant. This book isn't his best work but it isn't bad. A naughty read, if that word sells it for you.

My first Chuck P book I've ever read and I started and finished it in a day. Interesting. Kinda disgusting at points. But a relatively easy read. Not sure if I will try any of his other books but I'm reluctant to let one book shape the way I think about an author who is celebrated world wide. We'll see.

Maybe there're other authors who could've written this story, or something like it. But only Palahniuk can make it worth reading.

Be ready for some appalling descriptions about a world you never wanted to know about -- the porn industry. I felt like this book was blatantly for shock-value and while I read the whole thing, it didn't seem to require as much thought as some of Palahniuk's other books.

Lame.
Immature humor.
Little to no character development or growth.
I didn't dislike it but it didn't seem to have a purpose beyond entertainment and that's where the humor fell flat because it was just immature.
